Women's arteries are at greater risk : फिनलैंड (Finland) की यूनिवर्सिटी ऑफ युवास्कुले (University of Jyvaskyla) की एक स्टडी में बताया गया है कि महिलाओं में उम्र के साथ ही हार्मोन, गर्भ निरोधक गोलियां (contraceptive pills), मासिक धर्म (Menstrual) और मेनोपोज (Menopause) की भी धमनियों के सख्त होने में अहम भूमिका होती है. इंसानों में रक्त वाहिकाओं यानी ब्लड वेसल्स (blood vessels) में धमनी, नस तथा केशिका (capillary) शामिल होते हैं, जिनसे ब्लड सर्कुलेशन एक खास दिशा में होता है. हार्ट का काम होता है, ब्लड को पंप करना और आर्टरी यानी धमनियां (arteries) ब्लड को शरीर के अन्य हिस्सों में पहुंचाती हैं. इस क्रम में धमनी फैलती और सिकुड़ती है, जिससे ब्लड आगे बढ़ता है. यह प्रसार नाड़ी की गति (pulse wave) के रूप में जाना जाता है. इसके लिए धमनियों को एक सीमा तक पर्याप्त रूप से लचीला होना चाहिए, जिससे कि पल्स वेव धमनियों की भित्ति (mural) को बिना कोई नुकसान आगे बढ़े. लेकिन बढ़ती उम्र के साथ जब धमनियां सख्त होने लगती हैं तो कार्डियोवस्कुलर डिजीज (cardiovascular disease) और उससे मौत का भी खतरा बढ़ता है.

Four Injured In Firing By A Suspended Constable In Prayagraj

Four men were injured in firing allegedly by an Excise department constable in Keet Ganj area of the district here, police said on Thursday. The injured were taken to SRN Hospital for treatment, where one of them was said to be in critical condition, Superintendent of Police, Prayagraj Range, Rakesh Kumar, said. The constable, identified as Vimlesh Pandey, is reportedly on suspension from duty, he said. According to a local, Pandey has set up an office in an establishment he encroached upon in the area and was sitting in it with five other men at the time of the incident.

An expert panel of the country's central drug authority has recommended granting emergency use authorisation to Serum Institute of India's COVID-19 vaccine Covovax and Biological E's vaccine Corbevax with certain conditions, official sources said on Monday. The Subject Expert Committee (SEC) on COVID-19 of the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) on Monday also recommended granting permission to manufacture and market anti-Covid pill Molnupiravir for restricted emergency use for treatment of adult patients with SpO2 93 per cent and who have high risk of progression of the disease, including hospitalisation or death, subject to certain conditions.

A seven-year-old girl was sexually assaulted during a marriage function in central Delhi's Ranjit Nagar area, police said on Tuesday. The incident took place on Sunday, they said. According to police, the victim told her parents about the incident who later informed police. The victim gave a statement in front of a doctor and counsellor that she was sexually assaulted by an unknown person during a wedding function, following which a case has been registered, a senior police officer said. The medical examination of the girl was conducted and she is said to be stable, police said. During investigation, police arrested the accused who was identified as Naresh Chandra (38), a battery rickshaw driver, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Shweta Chauhan said. The accused has been sent to judicial custody, police said.

Desert Hot Springs (Calif) (AP) Investigators in Southern California on Friday were investigating a fatal crash in which a car rear-ended a school bus and then ploughed into a group of walking children, killing a 9-year-old girl and injuring two other kids. A white Cadillac struck the bus Thursday afternoon in the Riverside County town of Desert Hot Springs, east of Los Angeles and north of Palm Springs. Banned Cough Syrup Bottles Worth Rs 1.21 Lakh Seized In Bengal, One Bangladeshi Held

The Border Security Force on Tuesday said it recovered 650 bottles of Phensedyl cough syrup, a banned drug, from West Bengal's North 24 Parganas district and one Bangladeshi was arrested in this connection. A patrolling team of border guards at Dobarpara outpost spotted movement of three persons along the international boundary between India and Bangladesh in the early hours of Tuesday and gave chase, the BSF said in a statement. Two of the three persons managed to escape from the spot but the BSF personnel nabbed Mostafa Kamal, a resident of Jessore in Bangladesh, and recovered the banned cough syrup bottles worth Rs 1.21 lakh from his possession, it said. During interrogation, Kamal admitted that he had crossed the international boundary with his two other Bangladeshi companions and had taken all these Phensedyl bottles from one person in Bongaon. The apprehended person and the seized cough syrup bottles have been handed over to Gaighata Police Station for further legal action, the BSF said.

Police here arrested a man and his daughter in connection with the NEET solver gang case. Solvers are those who impersonate the actual candidate and take an entrance test, in this case it being the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET), a qualifying test for MBBS and BDS programmes in medical and dental colleges. This gang was exposed after the arrest of Julie Kumari, a student of Banaras Hindu University (BHU), who was taking the examination at the place of another student. Varanasi Police Commissioner A Satish Ganesh said on Monday that this is the first arrest of a candidate in the NEET solver gang case. Gopal Vishwas, a resident of Dhulai district of Tripura, was arrested after getting evidence of his connection with the solver gang, he said. The Commissioner of Police said that during interrogation, Vishwas has admitted that he had contacted Tripura's Pradipta Bhattacharya and Mrityunjay Devnath to get his daughter admitted to the medical course. The deal was fixed for Rs 50 lakh.
